Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN I GET MORE INFO ON REGGIE’S SLEEPOUT?
Start here. You can get event details and even directly donate – or have your friends, family, and community members donate money on your behalf by registering yourself as an individual, family, or joining someone else’s team. Once you register you will receive the starter packet which features info on how we help our youth, how to plan for your sleepout and a schedule of the event.

IS THERE A REGISTRATION FEE?
There is a $25 registration fee for campers, which includes the camper starter kit (water bottle, tote bag and campers booklet). The $25 goes towards your fundraising goal and helps make this event possible. You can register here.

If you just want to participate but don’t want any incentives feel free to donate to another campers page or click the ‘donate’ button at the top left corner of the page.

DO I NEED TO RAISE MONEY?
Since this is such an important cause we definitely encourage fundraising. The money donated at the event directly supports youth receiving services from YSS. There are some awesome incentives for raising money, including a t-shirt, crew neck sweatshirt exclusive content and more. Here’s just a sampling of how your donations will help youth:

+ $25 will provide 3 sets of I.D.’s for 3 youth (which is required to obtain housing and employment)
+ $50 will purchase 1 monthly DART bus pass, so a youth can get to school, work, and shelter
+ $100 will supply 200 meals at our Youth Opportunity Center
+ $250 will provide 15 survival backpacks (with food, hygiene products, and more) to youth living on the streets
+ $500 will provide 10 nights of safe shelter for 1 youth

WILL ANYONE SPONSOR ME?
Yes! Ask everyone you know, “Will you sponsor me?” You’ll be surprised at the number of people who’ll support you. Ask people at work, your friends and families, members of faith based groups or other organizations, your neighbors, or anyone you know. You can even ask them to go to the website and donate online on your behalf. No amount is too small.

OUR TEAM WANTS TO SLEEPOUT TOGETHER? IS THIS ALLOWED?

Yes! We encourage all participants to plan their sleepout however they feel comfortable in doing so. If your team or club wants to organize a sleepout event at your facility we encourage you to take proper health and safety precautions and make it a night that you all will look forward to. Plan activities, watch a documentary and compete with your friends to see who can raise the most funds in support of our youth. Review your starter packet, watch for daily updates during the event or shoot us a message for suggestions on how to host the best sleepout ever.

6/18/21 update: We still would like to discourage any mass gatherings that do not implement proper healthy and safety precautions for those who are unvaccinated. Please exercise caution if cases are rising in your community.

Prefer to host your sleepout from home? Find ways to connect your group through video chat or other safe methods! Try our RSO zoom virtual background for your next video chat.

WHAT ABOUT KIDS PARTICIPATING IN REGGIE’S SLEEPOUT?
Absolutely! Kids are the heart and sole of the event. We just ask that anyone under 18 be supervised by an adult.

WHERE DO I SLEEP?
Anywhere in or around your residence or private property that is reasonable and safe. While sleeping outside is encouraged, it isn’t always a possibility. The best option is to find a place in your yard or on the floor in your residence or plan a group outing at your team/club’s facility. Be creative! The key is to get out of your comfort zone and do your best to raise funds and awareness for homeless and at risk youth. If you are elderly or disabled we would love to have you participate however you comfortably can. Even if sleeping out isn’t a possibility you can still learn more and raise funds!

DO I NEED A CARDBOARD BOX? CAN I USE A TENT?
Past Reggie’s Sleepouts have put a big emphasis on building fun and cool cardboard enclosure designs in years past. This year we know acquiring enough cardboard might raise some concerns or just isn’t a possibility. If you would like to use cardboard, a tent or none of the above then go for it. No matter how you sleepout remember… we aren’t sleeping out to pretend to be homeless, we sleepout in solidarity with those in our community that need our help.

Post a picture with the hashtag #RSOatHome and tag @Reggiessleepout. We will share some of our favorites over the course of the event.

WHAT ABOUT RAIN?
When planning your sleepout prioritize having some covered shelter onsite. Watch the weather and prioritize your safety if severe weather is in the area. Try and schedule your sleepout with the weather in mind.

CAN YOU SLEEPOUT MORE THAN ONCE?
While we ask that all participants register and try and sleepout at least one night, there is no restriction how many nights of the event you can sleepout. If you would like you can sleepout every night of the event!
